Fall.
October is finally coming on strong. There’s that anticipation of falling leaves and epic rain … but we still get a fair share of sunlight. Warm, cold, warm, cold. Contrary to popular belief; it really doesn’t rain here all of the time. I surprised San Francisco doesn’t get more grief, with it’s constant haze from the bay.
Della! Apologies for the lack of updates on all of of our last bit of time. Between music, babies and work; the time is sorta blurry.
She talks (sorta). Instead of crying she does this all vowel yelling thing to get your attention. It’s pretty cute, and great to see she’s getting new ways to get our eyes. She’s really perceptive these days. Staring at color, talking 2 her two best friends (plastic giraffes), looking at spain and gasping. She can grab things a little bit here and there. Finds herself amazed when she does it. Sort of this ‘No way! did I just touch that????’. D is sleeping 8 hours a night. hah! Booyeh to all you people that told us how hard the nights would be. Grin.
What else what else …
* component cables make your TV look better * the mvmnt picked up some solid distribution, yes – that means you can buy it in tokyo * we’re hoping it snows this year, please no more dry snowboarding seasons * a new FCS record is brewing. Early tracking has begun + we’ve had some guests in and out of the studio. * FCS has a remix track on our friends label ‘Freundinnen’ coming up in early 07.
I started working downtown recently. A choice spot with a view of the water. I work with a dedicated group of people – it’s been a lot of fun and a welcome change. When I’m not playing music, mastering or recording – I design DVDs, artwork and work on films. Mostly foreign films and documentaries – a mix of classics and new films. The most recent the office has been focusing on, Iraq in Fragments, has been winning awards left and right in the festival circuit. It opens wide in November across the US. I haven’t done much on this project yet, but I look forward to working on the DVD. Last night I was finishing up some near-final menus and encoding for ‘Beirut: The Last Home Movie’. An excellent documentary from 1988 following a Lebanese family – it draws attention to their politics, their class and how strange it must be to live day by day in a war torn country. We retransferred the film digitally from the original 16mm negative that was stored away in a NYC warehouse. It looks great. The audio was hissy and scratchy (charming but hard to hear). I de-noised it, warmed it up and gave it some nice compression. It takes a while to make sure you don’t mess with the whole audio feel. Don’t want to make the end too loud or the middle to quiet.
In the slight possiblity that some of the people I share the road with on the way home from downtown might be reading this. Just some observations …
* If you merge into me do our cars become one car? If so, damn – that’s very cool * When it rains does your car have to go 10mph? * If the light is very red, why do you run it and try to smash all of us in the crosswalk? * If you don’t let me turn right, do you get 10% off of your purchases for the entire day? * Does that palm pilot have a small camera that helps you drive even better? Let me know!
