Your film was transferred in the kitchen.

Your film was transferred in the ‘kitchen’? Must be the newest, most technically savvy studio you could work at right. Well, yes. Of course. There’s the french press, and over there you’ll find the private sink.

So, that deck you see on the right is an amazingly heavy digiBeta record deck. When I originally set up a reservation for it, I was expecting an over sized VCR (so to speak) … but that was a play deck. They were all out of those, so when it arrived it was an insanely heavy machine. Usually these fine decks end up in the mvmnt studios in the basement – not this one, not even 2 people could safely bring this down the stairs.

And before you judge the effort of getting it down below – we carry speaker cabs, oversized drum kits and boxes full of CDs down those stairs … not this. So, long story short … the trusty MacPro and Beta deck end up on the kitchen table! Transfers look great, perhaps it was the view to the trees in the back yard? For the technically interested …. DigiBeta master from the deck to a Blackmagic HD card via SDI. Uncompressed 10bit Blackmagic. Intended to be DVD ready MPEG2.  All of the ‘kitchen’ movies have won their fair share of awards … I’ll keep the titles silent though, so not to ruin a director’s idea of my arena sized transfer facility.  It’s all about the gear and effort … grin.
* Note the vintage table.
