Dah-Care.

Somewhat against our grain, we’re looking into Daycare, nanny, ghost, magical horses and whomever else might be able to help us care for Della.  Not an easy task by any means.  The word the sums up the whole ordeal is ‘bleh’.  We’d love to stay home with lil D for the next many years if we could pull it off.  When we say daycare btw (our strongest choice so far) we’re talking about NYAK credited partial pre-school teaching style care.  Only the best for DLT.  This is hard stuff, because we don’t want to send Della anywhere but our arms or home.
Storytime. Couple with cute baby enters urban, seattle area childcare facility. “hello” says the woman that runs it.  Couple and small one say ‘hey whats up?’.  Well lets get a tour.  Oh so that’s the baby room?  Very cute says other woman on tour.  Oh do we live close?  Sure  – 5 minutes away. Then we tour the 1 year old room, the 3 year old room, the 45 year old room.  This place is alright.  Not our fave, but very nice with a respectable list of things they do.  Now after that 45 minutes of our time … “So, here’s some paperwork – the waiting list for our center is 3 years’.  Umm, did I miss something?  Della will be driving by then.  Crazy eh?  This is the story at every great childcare center in the greater Seattle!!!  Not only do they cost $700ish for 2 days a week (what we’re looking into).  Imagine the waiting list + the full month fee.  Insane.

What did we do?  We’re looking.  But I think we’ll probably take turns caring for Della (which was the plan anyhow) for the most part.  Center?  We’re going to look into places outside of Seattle.  Apparently Ginger and I were supposed to of planned for this over a decade ago.  heh.  Definitely makes you think of innovative ways to make it work.

Now, we rarely interject any sort of politics in this virtual sanctuary but here’s a bit. Childcare is really really expensive.  Insanely so.  Most of the ‘modern’ countries in the ‘free’ world seem to be able to hook up people of every class and race with childcare …. except ours.  Now, Ginger being a teacher.  Wouldn’t you think the people of the USA would like that the much needed teachers can get help with (or gasp, free) childcare?  Not a chance … This goes for most government employees too.  Want to get that on-the-job childcare?  Better head over to Boeing, M$ etc for that. It takes a village … right?
